Have you ever heard the statement ‘the word of God works like magic?’I am sure you have. Some time ago, while I was meditating, it dawned on me how erroneous his statement is; you see, the word of God does not work like magic; rather it is magic that works like the word of God. The bible makes us understand that the word of God is powerful and dynamic in nature as revealed in scripture: “12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Heb. 4: 12.
I’d like to see it from another translation, “12 For the Word that God speaks is alive and full of power [making it active, operative, energizing, and effective]; it is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating to the dividing line of the breath of life (soul) and [the immortal] spirit, and of joints and marrow [of the deepest parts of our nature], exposing and sifting and analyzing and judging the very thoughts and purposes of the heart.” Heb 4:12 (AMP)
From the scripture above, we can deduce the following noteworthy points:
The word of God is quick
Meaning it is apt to act and get the job done in a short amount of time. Quick here also means living, and I have personally grown and learnt to see the word of God beyond something that has life, rather I see the word of God as life itself, “4In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not” John 1: 4- 5.
The word of God is powerful
Meaning it sustains the ability to control and influence people and things; it can produce a lot of physical and spiritual strength. I have written in so many of my pieces that power is not an attribute God possesses, God is power personified and power is the ability or right to control people or things. Gods ability spans beyond controlling and influencing people and things, His power is such that everything you know, see and feel are a product of his power being manifested in creation. He created all things by that same power, and that is what He uses to sustain all things. This is not a piece on power so I would stop here.
Meaning having a thin edge that is able to cut things. The word of God in comparison to any other thing has the ability to bring down, put asunder, and design also.
To discern means to detect or recognize or to identify as separate and distinct.
The word of God has all the above qualities, abilities and even more; however, I would stop on these five.
This same word is said to never return void; “10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater:11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.” Isa. 55: 10- 11.
The potent nature of the word is explicitly displayed at creation, “3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.” Gen. 1: 3. Does this mean that whenever the word of God is spoken, there is an immediate visible manifestation? No, but there is always a substance formed, the realm from whence the spoken word of God precipitates from is a realm of power, and this power can and does create substances out of nothing. So, if God speaks, there might not be an immediate physical manifestation of what He says, but a reaction is ignited, and a substance is definitely formed. This is explicitly explained in my book “What Is Faith” (For details on how to get a copy, kindly drop a message at “Contact ME.”) The waiting on God that is required is explicitly explained in my forth coming piece “Why Wait On God.”
It is my believe even as I have seen in scripture that anytime the word of God springs forth, there is always a manifestation, either in substance form or in a visible and tangible form, this however is not the experience of some believers, this is because the precept upon precept and line upon line is often times neglected, believers want to start building a house from the roof, they want to start and immediately sky rocket into success, fame and stardom, and unfortunately, our God is process given.
Out of the so many scriptures that buttresses order and this same order has more often than not neglected is a statement made by the Lord Jesus himself, this was what he said: “19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matt. 16: 19. Most times, the part of this verse that I hear people quote is “whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven”. I have seen people wake up and bind, after they are done binding, it will seem like they just looses want the claimed to have bonded, or exactly what they claim to lose will suddenly seem bound.
The question I keep asking myself is; what then is wrong? God is definitely not the issue, and if that is the case, then it is a human factor. If the word of God sustains the properties listed in the Heb. 4: 12, then that should be the average description of our experience.
You see, I have earlier on said that God is process given, the devil however doesn’t care about process, he knows that the average man in his carnal nature is impatient and cannot wait for too long, so he seeks to exploit that weakness. The bible says that no weapon fashioned against you shall not prosper. What does it mean for a weapon to be fashioned against you? It means that you have been under surveillance, careful observation has been done over time, your strength and weaknesses have been noted, and a careful and deliberate strategy has been set up all in order to bring you down. The devil never attacks you at your strongest moments or in areas you are strong, he would rather attack at moments you are week and off guard, or invest in areas you are weak and feeble.
We have different strengths and weaknesses, that is why scripture tells us that iron sharpens iron and so does a man sharpen the countenance of his brother, it also says, never neglect the gathering of brethren as it is in the habit of others. Two scriptures emphasis on fellowship and intercourse, this is because by the reason of association and fellowship, we are able to strengthen each other; your area of strength may be my area of weakness and by reason of fellowship, I am able to learn how you have over time developed strength and immunity in that area, my own area of strength may just be your area of weakness and I am also able to be of help. Also when we meet and commune, intercourse takes place and there is transference of grace and corporately we are able to do much more. You are only as strong as you are all alone. “The Power Of Unity (I)” and “The Power Of Unity (II)” is an in-depth exposition on how there is nothing a united people cannot do, it shows the origin of unity which is in the Godhead, and how both divinity and humanity can do much when united and absolutely nothing when disunited.
A man who does not have the spirit of God and does not depend on God’s leading is a prey and simply lacks the fruit of the spirit, one of which is patience. The devil will always seek to explore that weakness and such a man stands no chance at all.
This explains why the devil gives wealth without process.
Some years ago, I was under the ministration of God’s servant, Apostle Arome Osayi and he made statement I will never forget, he said, “when a believer asks God for money, in the school of the spirit, God does not immediately gives him money, rather God takes him through a process of making so that when the money comes, it will not become an idol in his life” read ,my piece “What is the blessing of the Lord that makes you rich and He adds no sorrow to it (I)”, “What is the blessing of the Lord that makes you rich and He adds no sorrow to it (II)” and “What is the blessing of the Lord that makes you rich and He adds no sorrow to it (III)”
God is always process driven and no process is void of order.
Let us refer back to my main scripture of emphasis, “19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.” Matt. 16: 19.
Prior to this piece, I had written and explained that quoting scriptures without firstly understanding context and what led to the utterance, will alter with the accuracy of our navigation using the word of God as our compass. Quoting scriptures out of context, void of understanding of context and progression, and being totally disjointed from kingdom order and priority is sorcery, if you desire to know more on this, check out “When Is It Rightly The Word Of God Or Sorcery (I)”, “When Is It Rightly The Word Of God Or Sorcery (II)” and “When Is It Rightly The Word Of God Or Sorcery (III)”. A brief look at the preceding verses of our anchor scripture will do us a lot of good.
“13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am? 14 And they said, Some say that thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets. 15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am? 16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God. 17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven. 18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.19 And I will give unto thee the keys of the kingdom of heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt bind on earth shall be bound in heaven: and whatsoever thou shalt loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven.20 Then charged he his disciples that they should tell no man that he was Jesus the Christ.” Matt. 16: 19- 20.
Let us do a surface anatomy, firstly there was a questioning, “Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?”, several answers came forth; “thou art John the Baptist: some, Elias; and others, Jeremias, or one of the prophets.”, then the true answer came forth, “Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.”
Carefully see what the Lord Jesus said, “Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.”
This means that what Peter said was not learnt in the synagogue nor any theological school or while fishing on the sea. It was revealed to him. I have always said, God is not learnt, He is revealed. There was a revelation; Jesus is the Christ, the son of the living God.
Anything that is eternal and founded on God must be predicated on the revelation of ‘Jesus who is the Christ and also the son of the living God.’ For further understanding of this, I would recommend my piece, “Is The Church Invincible?”
Watch out for my next piece on the same subject.
